QV Ajax > send-to-excel lost connection

We have the following problem at one of our customers. Customer is using QV Server with Ajax. When he downloads a table to Excel (by pressing the Excel button in the caption of an object), the Excel file is opened when trying to do it within Firefox. But, doing the same thing within Internet Explorer (6), the Excel file will not open.

When opening Excel file by using Firefox, we've seen a popup (which closes automatically) with the message 'Connection lost...', but the message dissapears fast.

Has anyone experienced the same? How can we solve this? Customer prefers using Internet Explorer because of IT policy.

Problem is solved.

The following Security setting within IE had to be changed (tested in IE6 and IE8):

  • Open IE
  • Go to Tools > Internet Options > tab Security
  • Press button 'Custom Level...'
  • Scroll down to 'Downloads'
  • Change 'Automatic prompting for file downloads' to 'Enable'

Now IE asks for every file that will be downloaded if you want to open or save the file.

The Lost connection error was caused by a slow internet connection and opening a large QV file from external QV Server...
