Section Access

Hi Guys,

I have one table qvw that I have set section access on.

The section access has three fields:

Manager

Director

Region

For user A I am trying to let him see data for two regions one where he is a manager(So he will see data if he is listed as manager)

and the second region where he can see everybody

On the section access table I did the following:

ACCESS     NTNAME     MANAGER     DIRECTOR     REGION

ADMIN          ADMIN

USER               A                    A                                REGION1

USER               A                                                      REGION2

According to this scenario user A should see data for REGION1 where he is manager and all data for REGION2 but this is not working. he only sees data where he is manager in both regions..

Any idea on how can I fix this.

Best,

Alec

Hi,

Thank you for your reply! this is helpful to understand section access but in my case it doesn't help. I am not using *  as you can see above.

Hi,

The blank in Manager/Director will work only if the access for the user is ADMIN and the document is being opened locally (Desktop, not on server, plugin, ajax, etc), because when you open the document on server, all users are given USER access, regardless what they have in section access.

The use of "*" will only work if the field Region has all possible values you want to see, in your example above.

Hope this helps.

I wish I could but I am not allowed to do that.. and the qvw is huge.

the section access looks like the above and in the data user A is a manager in region1 and he is NOT a manager or director in region2..

I want user A to see his data from region1 and all data in region2 for all manager and directors

hope that explain it..

I am sure that you have not made that silly mistake, still asking to be sure, you are using ACCESS (and not SECTION) as your first section access heading.

Oh! this mistake is only here on the discussion.and not on the actual qvw.
