Shared Network Storage - QlikView Cluster

Hi guys,

we are planing to implement QV-Cluster in our infrastructure (Microsoft Server 2012 R2). As we've noticed:

Qlikview supports the use of SAN (NetApp, EMC, etc) with a QV-Server provided it is mountend to a Windows Server (2003, 2008) and then shared from that Windows server.

To reduce cost we worked out two possible solutions:

1. Cluster Shared Volumes - Scale out Fileserver

2. Server 2012 as a Fileserver

Now here my questions:

  • Is it possible to use Cluster Shared Volumes - Scale out Fileserver  as a Shared Network Storage solution in a QV-Cluster environment?
    • If yes are there any best practices?
  • Is it possible to use an Windows Server 2012 R2 as a Shared Network Storage solution in a QV-Cluster environment?
  • What kind of solution do you prefer except a dedicated Storage like EMC or NetApp?

Can you guys help me out?

Thanks in advance

Kemal

Hi Kemal,

To start you can talk to your account manager and they can get a Technical Architect to look at your system and decide what would be the best solution.

However, having shared storage behind a Microsoft Cluster is doable. This will help with the single point of failure. However, The time it takes the cluster to failover can and will give you issues. The reason is that if the PGO files are not available the QVS servers will throw up errors.
