Usage CAL question

I have a question about how Usage CALs are allocated.  So I understand if a user gets a Usage CAL, it is good for 60 minutes if they stay signed in and are actively viewing a document.  What happens in this scenario:

1.  User logs in to AccessPoint, looks at a document for 10 minutes.

2.  Same user logs out.

3.  10 Minutes later, the user logs in again and opens the same document.

Since all this happens within 60 minutes, will the user only consume one Usage CAL?  Or since the user logged out and had their session terminated, will the second log in consume a second Usage CAL?

Thanks!

Hi David,

So you have stumble into the world of Usage CALS.  The short answer to your question is he would use another Usage CAL.

So this means that the first Usage Cal (10 minutes of which had been used) is blocked till 28 days has passed and even if all available Usage CALs are used then it's still not possible to re-use the first one?

Hi,

Yes, that's what it means. Usage CALs are recovered at 1/28 per day, every day. So if your license has a pool of 280 Usage CALs, and you use some of them on a daily basis, you will get them back daily on a pace of 280/28 = 10 per day.

If you used the whole 280 in one day you will get 10 of them back each day.

Day 1 = 280 usage available - 280 used - 0 left - 0 "quarantined"

Day 2 = 10 usage available - 0 used - 0 left - 270 "quarantined"

Day 3 = 20 usage available - 0 used - 0 left - 260 "quarantined"

and so on...

Do not hesitate to contact us should you have any questions on Usage CAL licenses.

Hi Miguel,

According to your example:

Day 1 = 280 usage available - 280 used - 0 left - 0 "quarantined"

Day 2 = 10 usage available - 0 used - 0 left - 270 "quarantined"

Day 3 = 20 usage available - 0 used - 0 left - 260 "quarantined"

and so on...

What would happen if the Day 2 we used the 10 Usage available (recently recovered)? Would the day 3 recover the 20 usage and so on.. or the pace of 280/28 = 10 per day is recalculated to some other value due we used the 10 usage licenses recovered again??
