Hi Asha,

You say two nodes clustered, are these two QVS nodes? also do you have QlikView publisher?

The reloads are run from the QlikView Distribution Service QDS and the QlikView Management Service QMS tells it what todo. Its possible to cluster the QDS service also, but this doesn't sound like your deployment.

If a service/node is down try restarting it, and checking the QlikView and windows logs for a reason.

Peter,

Just a guess: no publisher probably means that both cluster nodes have entirely separate reload definitions. Worst case, this environment has reload tasks scheduled only on the node that is currently down. There is no real solution to this situation I think, except - as you pointed out - getting the inactive node back up again as soon as possible.

Correct?

Peter.

Hi Peter,

Yes that could be the case, and it depends where the DistributionService information is stored as without that nothing will run.

Asha as your running multiple servers anyway you could look into moving all the reloads onto one separate 'reload' server, or maybe even clustering reloads too, but you might need to check with Qlik if you need additional licences to cluster the QDS without publisher.

Without a full Publisher license, QDS cannot be moved away from QVS or clustered.

Hi Peter Turner/Peter Cammaert,

We do have publisher.

Yes ,reload tasks were scheduled only on the node that went down. our server administrator was able to bring this up and running yesterday. But wondering what would be best approach to avoid this in future.Do we need to create tasks in two servers?

Thanks

Asha

The best solution in your case is what peter.T already hinted at: move your publisher away from both QVS machines (if you don't have a publisher cluster license, only one of the publisher installations can be active anyway) to a separate server and go for a three-platform approach. Many performance issues in an enterprise environment are caused by running a publisher and a QVS on the same platform.

For a good explanation of reasons and advantages, see chapter 17 Clustering QlikView Servers in the Server Reference Manual.

Best,

Peter

Hi Peter,

How do I find if we have publisher cluster license, is there any way to find or do I need to contact Qlik for this.

Thanks

Asha

Check your Publisher LEF file (in QMC or on disk in C:\ProgramData\QlikTech\ManagementService\Publisher LEF\). If it contains an entry called NUMBER_OF_NS with a number greater than 1, you have a Clustered Publisher license. The number indicates the maximum number of Publisher nodes in your cluster.

If this entry is missing, then you can install only one Publisher with this license.

The Server Reference Manual contains a lot of information on this subject. See Chapter 18 Clustering QlikView Publisher

Best,

Peter
