The document paths are very useful for a natural categorisation of documents by environment (we host many environments on a server in the non production area - dev, qa, uat, ci, gold, etc).
The document attributes are fine for logical groupings of documents and further enrichment of metadata, but the document paths were also very useful (and did not require any maintenance as they are implicit based on the file's location).
The key issue here is that functionality has been removed in a new version of the product, and with no mention of it in the release notes or upgrade documentation.
Normally when migrating to a new version of a product, I expect to find more functionality, not less. It's just very disappointing and frustrating, and creates more work when trying to implement and execute a migration.
