The a Qlikview Repository (QVPR) as standard uses its own database to store the data (mySQL i think), but you do have the option of storing this to an existing SQL database if needed.
I've never had to change this default setting as its worked fine for me.
If you want to then analyse the data in this database you can search for and download the app 'Analyze your QVPR and Server Task Structure' by Rob Wunderlich, in the community under QlikView > Resource Library > Documents .
This will show information about your server and reload tasks etc.
