same qlikview enterprise server license applicable for dev, test and prod environments?

Hi,

As per the qlikview license offer,it says that qlikview enterprise server -No of licenses -1.

Does it mean that we can use the same license for all environments by installing 3 times one in development, test and production and giving the same contriol and serial number for all three environments OR do we need to buy seperate license for "Test Server".

kindly let me know your inputs.

Hi,

For development you don't need any server license a CAL is enough for Qlikview Desktop. But for Testing the app in server you need have Test server license. For the production environment you need have QV EE or IAS or QES servers. PSB for detailed explanation.

QlikView Server Editions & Other Products

The QlikView Server comes in a number of editions designed for different organizations and purposes. Upgrading is done through the license key. The various editions of QlikView Server are listed below.

QlikView Enterprise Edition (EE) Server

QlikView EE Server is designed to be used in large and complex deployments and provides features such as unlimited documents, server-based collaboration, integration with third-party security systems, server clustering, and cluster licensing. The minimum configuration of a QlikView EE Server is five Named User Client Access Licenses (CALs).

QlikView Small Business Edition (SBE) Server

QlikView SBE Server is designed to be used in smaller deployments. The minimum configuration of a QlikView SBE Server is five Named User CALs.

QlikView Information Access Server (IAS)

QlikView IAS is a QlikView Server that is licensed for an uncapped number of users and a single QlikView document. The IAS may be licensed with multiple QlikView documents for an additional fee. QlikView IAS runs in anonymous mode, must be publically accessible without authentication (on the public Internet) and, must not be placed behind a firewall. No QlikView client program can access QlikView IAS. The user interface must be built by the end user either manually or by using QlikView WorkBench. Note: There is no license lease from QlikView IAS.

QlikView Extranet Server (QES)

QES allows users to deploy QlikView documents to their extranet in order to permit authorized third parties located outside of the firewall to view the QlikView documents. Use of this server inside the LAN is not allowed. The server can be deployed with a combination of Session and Usage CALs. QES supports mobile clients and can be deployed in clustered environments. The AJAX client or a customized AJAX client can be used via QlikView WorkBench, which is included in QES.

QlikView Test Server

QlikView Test Server is a server license that provides an environment separate from production to use for data validation, application testing, and preparation/migration of QlikView documents to new versions and/or releases of QlikView. QlikView Test Server comes in two editions, QlikView EE Test Server and QlikView SBE Test Server, both of which have the same features and limitations as the corresponding production servers. In addition, the watermark “Test” is superimposed on all charts and added to all object captions. Note: There is no license lease from QlikView Test Server.

Hi Hari,

Sorry to come back. From the below statement

"For development you don't need any server license a CAL is enough for Qlikview Desktop. But for Testing the app in server you need have Test server license. For the production environment you need have QV EE or IAS or QES servers. PSB for detailed explanation."

Kindly confirm for development environment also we need to install Qlikview Enterprise Server and for connecting to the Server we would be having Named CAL to connect it.

How about Qlikview Publisher, We would be requiring 3 licenses right as below.

Development - 1 License

QA - 1 License

Production - 1 License

Thanks for your time !!!

Hi,

Development will be carried out by QVdesktop application which don't need separate license.

Named cal can be leased from your QVEE production server to your desktop application. Because Qlikview Desktop Application is having limitation of opening qvw's, to get out of that only i'm suggesting CAL . you can directly place developed applications in the root folder of QVEE server which is in the production environment or QA.

If you want you can bye desktop license separately.

I'm not sure about publisher. we are using Nprinting for Distribution and Windows task schduler for reloading the qvw.

Thanks

Hi,

Was going through the document which you have sent and saw the below details.

"A QlikView client program that does not have a registered license is allowed to connect to a QlikView Server and "borrow" a license, so that the user can work offline for a period of 30 days. The QlikView client program must then make an authenticated log on (not anonymous) and obtain a Named User CAL. Each time QlikView is started, QlikView tries to contact the QlikView Server and renew the license lease. If the QlikView client program cannot reach the server after 30 days, the license lease expires.

"A license lease can only be used with QlikView Desktop and the Internet Explorer plugin. This means a license lease cannot be obtained when using an AJAX client. "

We are using AJAX client instead of IE Plug-in. So I suppose we need to buy Desktop license Separately?

Hi,

Server is not required for development but Desktop is required. you can use file server for storing and archiving the QVW files, some organizations will use SVN's.

QV Server is used for testing(For testing how the app is doing in live) and Deployment(Production) not for development.

Thanks
