This tutorial presents a script pattern for assigning time dimensions to multiple fact dates in a data model. It answers the commonly asked Forum question "how do I link to two dates"?
The pattern will demonstrate how to link all fact dates to a common calendar as well as using separate calendars for each fact date.
rwunderlich Rob, sorry for my lively non topic discussion with ahaahaaha on your page. Thanks a lot for your advise!
Hi Rob, any chance you can share this for QlikSense?
Many thanks,
Luis
Awesome,
Last week I published a document on a process to create MasterCalendars from a date field on a fact table to deal with time measures such as Calendar / Financial / Season and Current / Previous / YTD / Etc.
I wish I had seen your process before. It's great!!!!
Many thanks,
Qlik rocks!

Thanks for the Qlik Sense version as I couldn't get past the license issue on the Qlikview version. One question I had - do I always need to use this type of solution if I have more than 1 date field or only under certain circumstances. In my situation I have a product that has a built and sold date. I didn't really think I needed multiple fact tables since there is only 1 product and it has a unique product ID.
This type of solution -- a common calendar -- is only required when you want the user to be able to select a single time value (e.g. Month) and have that selection represent multiple date fields (e.g. BuiltDate and SoldDate).
Thanks Rob this helped me a lot
Thanks a lot @rwunderlich take me almost a month to solve one issue combining dates, but now is clear with your great help and example.
I just need a small help, is posible to create the Common Calendar as Fiscal Calendar? my idea is to have fiscal year, Fiscal quarter, fiscal Month created by this calendar, is that posible?
Thanks in advance for your great help.
BR
You can certainly make the common calendar a fiscal calendar. The linking field is normally a Date. You can assign whatever Year or other attribute is correct for your calendar.

Hi,
How can I open this file? I get an error saying that 'the licence that is embedded in this document is not valid'.
Thanks.
