Symbol option is ignored in Line Chart Display Options

Help! I'm trying to get certain data points on a line chart to display as circles. I've deselect Line and selected Symbol and Circles on the Chart Properties / Expressions dialog, but the expression continues to show as a line. What am I missing? I'm using 11.00.11414.0 SR2 64-bit Edition. Thanks.

Answering my own question, I've discovered that symbols won't display if there are more than 100 data points on the line.
