Is there anyway that we can reduce the space along the axis if we use 'in Thousands' as Thousands Symbol for data points in the chart:
The Thousands symbol should be 'in Thousands' only.
Probably not - your problem isn't the extra space, it's the header ("in Thousands") that is taking up the extra space. If you use 'K' you won't have this problem (see below). I checked with CTRL+SHIFT+Drag and you can't drag the header itself, so it doesn't seem like there's any way around the problem except to use a shorter header or live with the extra space.
