What Licenses can be used without having a Server.

Hi Guys,

My company is thinking into going into Qlikview, but to begin with, we would only purchase one Local Client License (for the person Developing) after the report has been developing what is the best and cheapest way to have people to just view the QV Report, make selections etc.

Can the Session CAL be bought without a QV Server?? Is there any other options?

Many Thanks

No, only the local client license can be used with Qlikview Desktop without Qlikview Server. The other license types do no make sense without a server and do require Qlikview Server.

Hi Gualter

You can download Qlikview Personal Edition for free, directly from Qlik.com. It's the only way to do what you want.

Remember that you will develop and only you can open. Other people will open it when you have a licensed server installed.

I am aware of the Personal Edition and etc, I was developing QV Reports for 2 years, but never got into Licenses.

So basically if I develop a Report and I want 5 people to only view that report, I have to fork out £6K for a Server?

That seems a bit expensive, I might have to look into QV alternatives.

Thanks

Or get the other five people a local client license too to use with their installation of Qlikview Desktop.

Yeah, but its a waste when a local client license costs £1000 and those people are not going to be developing on those licenses, only view files, we dont need 5 or 6 Local Clients at £1000 each when only one person is going to be developing, and at that price might as well buy the server.

Ohh well, lets try Tableau or Spotfire.

Coming back to this, what does the Ajax and the IE plugin do??

I am aware I need the Server for this, but will the Ajax or the IE plugin allow my users to Read reports, change selections etc??

Thanks

Hi

You cannot reload reports via AJAX client but you can schedule the same via QlikView server.

Yes, with Ajax Client users can have any selections.

Have a look at demo website of Qlik.

The ajax client allows the user to interact with a qlikview document using nothing but a decent modern browser. If Server Objects are enabled the user can create new sheet objects too.

The IE plugin gives the user a bit more functionality then the ajax client, but requires IE and the IE plugin installed (or allowed to be downloaded from the QV Server and run).

With both options users can work with Qlikview documents; making selections, using bookmarks, accessing reports etc.

That is brilliant thanks, so i suppose the can be done with SBE Server and doesnt require enterprise.

This way we can save alot of money on Document Cals and sessions CALS, as the users have no need to access Qlikview Data outside of work.

Just to make it clear, the only requirement is SBE Server with no need to purchase further Licenses to enable users to access QV Data while connect to the same Network as the server, Document CALS and Session CALS are used to take a QV file to a customers site for presentation? Am I getting this correctly?

Thanks
