Assign document calc to document without sourcedocument

Hi

I have experienced that i have to give a Document that is not distributed via a sourcedocument rights to the file on the server or folder.

How come?

Is there no other way to assign and let the user see this calc without giving him folder/file rights on the server? (If i dont i get a messeage Failed to open document. Access denied)

If you have an Enterprise Edition-QVS, and you switch security to DMS, then you get a nice workaround. QlikView will take over access/rights management from NTFS and will add an Authorization tab to your User Documents overview in QMC. With the tools in this tab, you can grant access directly to a User document by flipping a few switches. That document doesn't have to be distributed or reloaded. And you don't need a Publisher.

Is a lot nicer than messing with NTFS security settings...

Hi Thomas,

Can you please give more information. I don't understand what you are having to do to make it work.

Sorry not for being clear.

My setup is like:

SourceDocuments:

QlikviewLoad

In this folder i have a document called DataLoad - This document distribute to my Reports folder which is a Document folder. It distribute by a unique ID in Dataload

Documents:

Reports (Mounted)

Test (Mounted)

In Reports i get all my Reports called Report_UniqueID.

So user A has been assigned to Report_A and user B assigned to Report_B

But now i want another report in Reports(Mounted) which is not a part of the DataLoad distribution.

(They access the document via a webticket and then its directed to an iframe, so they never get to see the accesspoint, they are just redirected directly to the report.)

But when adding a custom report to Reports(Mounted) i have to give the user permission on file/folder level on the server before when user is able to see the report - otherwise i get the error messeage (Failed to open document. access denied)

Hope its more clear now..

Hi Thomas,

This is correct behavior. When distributing a source document you set the permissions on the file on a NTFS level. If you don't set it within the task, such as when you just have a file on disk, as it is, there is no service, no user or anything else that have changed the permissions. This is why you need to manually add permissions because QDS haven't touched any of those settings.

Let me know if this helps.

Regards,

Erik
