PowerTools 1.3.2 - Delete inactive cals

Hey guys,

I have a question for the PowerTools 1.3.2 and deleting inactive cals.

We're using the QlikView Version  "Client Build Number 12.10.20400.0". We have >600 unused licenses (some from 2018) and want to delete them automatically because doing it manually is very frustrating. We tried using the PowerTools but it doesn't work.

We don't get an error message, we got an success message with "600 cals removed from QVS@Cluster1" but nothing happend. In the Log files from the Management Service there is no entry. Someone from Qlik technical support didn't find the error as well. Listing all cals in one .csv-file works fine so we don't have any access problems.

Does anyone have an idea what we got wrong? Or does the PowerTools not work for our QlikView version?

Thanks in advance,
steuberklein

You should not be removing users from assigned CALs due to inactivity, as this is not one of the allowed removal terms per the product terms:

"Named and Document CALs are assigned to an identified user and may not be transferred to another user unless the transfer is due to a i) termination of employment, or ii) a transfer of the user to a new business unit or group resulting in no access to the Qlik Software. When a Named User or Document CAL is transferred, there is a 7-day quarantine before the CAL can be used by another user."

Technically, removing users from CALs purely due to inactivity is a violation of the product agreement per the above.  You can find the full pdf document, QlikView-License-Metrics-EN.pdf, from this link:

https://www.qlik.com/us/-/media/files/legal/license-agreements/qlikview/qlikview-license-metrics-en....

I realize this is not the answer you wanted, but it is the legal answer.

Regards,
Brett

... and how do i get rid of users who are inactive due to termination of employment ?

We haven`t cleared that since 2 years, it might be hundreds.... impossible to do that manually via the console.

You can use the QMS APIs to create a method to programmatically remove the CALs. Community has many threads about this topic.
