Scheduled tasks in the mgmt console

Hi,

we are facing a challenge in the management console:

- We have a number of scheduled tasks there andc so far everything is fine.

- One app which is at the very basis of the entire deployment runs once a day at 5am.

<=> Now, however, we would like to run it once more at 2pm.

Is there any way that one can schedule a document twice a day? The "hourly" setting is not really optimal, for we cannot set it to run every 9 hrs or we wouldn't hit 5am the next day. We could only run it every 8hrs which would make it run at the same times every day.

Is there another way?

Thanks a lot!

Best regards,

Hi,

This is how your task will have trigger. You can click on + symbol to add one more.

You can add one more trigger for the same task.

Hi Karthikeyan,

that would be just what we want to do.

Can you please explain just how we should do this (I cannot myself access the mgmt_console since I have no remote access to the server it is on and my colleague, who can, never has too much time, so the more precisely I can tell him what to do, the better).

Thanks a lot!

Hi Karthikeyan,

many thanks!

I forwarded this to my boss who can access the mgmt console. As soon as he has some time to spare, we can get down to this and try to schedule one more general update per day.

This should be precise enough.

A thing to be aware of:

You can only schedule a job by more than one trigger, if you have Publisher licensed.

Oops...

That might be an obstacle: We don't.

Up to now, we decided it was not worthwhile investing that kind of money when we only needed one very specific thing that the Publisher should do for us - and we eventually learned that it cannot do that.

In that case, however, we might have to reconsider.

Thanks a lot!

P.S.: Is there an encompassing list available anywhere here of exactly what the Publisher can do and what it can't do? We have a partner, actually, but they never gave us anything like such a list.

QV Publisher allows for creating 'tasks' to reload qv documents.  Tasks can be triggered by schedules, the success of other tasks, or external events.

Without the license for Publisher, you can only schedule reloads based on a date/time.

Other types of Tasks can also be created - Distribution, Loop and Reduce, or External Tasks.

For example, with Publisher, you can schedule reload of a document, then when it's completed, it can loop thru the values of a field  (i.e. 'Region'), and save a reduced QV document for each value of the field Region.

Thus creating separate qvw's for each 'Region'.  These documents can then be 'Distributed' to a folder, and certain security applied (allow only certain windows groups to read the qvw on the accesspoint).

Publisher is designed for more complex tasks, likely required in a larger organization.

Hi Karthikeyan,

thanks a lot!

I will put this before my boss - but as I see it, the possibility of scheduling reload_tasks - I cannot think of any other now - would not be enough to justify the expense, given that there is an alternative, though maybe not quite as good.

Really, is there not a list or technical specification available anywhere to have a list of all the things the Publisher can do? The term "more complex tasks" is too vague to make it the base of an investment_decision over 20k...

The underlying difficulty is, we are the only branch of this company that has QlikView yet, and it was not the company that proposed getting it, the boss of this branch actually argued for it against some obstacles, but it is the company's money...so every new investment needs some really good explanation.
