Using EDX beside QMC schedule loading tasks

Hi,

I have setted EDX for my qlikview server 12.4 (no publisger with it) .Everything works perfectelly .

I can launch the task by EDX but i can't launch it by the QMC schedule .

Schould i have publisher to performe that ?

Is there a way to do that without Publisher ?

Thank you .

Mohamed, you have what we call the Reload Engine, that is what you get when you do not have a Publisher license.  You will find the settings for the Reload Engine in the QVS Performance tab settings in the QMC\System\Setup\QVS resource\Performance...

You set the Reload task/schedule via QMC\Documents\User Documents and pick an app and on the right side you should see a Reload tab where you can set things there..

Here are a couple of Help links to go through things as well:

https://help.qlik.com/en-US/qlikview/April2019/Subsystems/QMC/Content/QV_QMC/QMC_System_Setup_QlikVi...

https://help.qlik.com/en-US/qlikview/April2019/Subsystems/QMC/Content/QV_QMC/QMC_Documents_UserDocum...

I think that should cover things, oh, the Reload Engine has to run on the same server as the QVServer, you cannot run it on a different machine, just FYI. Be careful in this case how high you set the QVS Low Working Set limit, as setting that too high will likely not leave enough memory resources for the Reload Engine in that case...

Brett

Hi Brett,

I see Thank you  .

What i was meaning is that when i set up a reload task and i define External event for triggering ,i can't schedule it .It's only one choice .(EDX or schedule).

Is there a solution to trigger a task with EDX and in the same time with schedule ? or should i have publisher to perform that?

Mohamed, EDX is a trigger that is triggered via an API call, see the Help link below for further information:

https://help.qlik.com/en-US/qlikview/April2019/Subsystems/Server/Content/QV_Server/QlikView-Server/Q...

The thing that may work better for you here if you are running 12.30 or later is the new 'File Exists' trigger, which is in the Supporting Tasks area, here is the Help link for that:

https://help.qlik.com/en-US/qlikview/April2019/Subsystems/QMC/Content/QV_QMC/QMC_System_SupportingTa...

Hopefully this gets you on the right track, sorry for confusion on my part, but hopefully this is what you need to know.

Regards,
Brett

Hi Brett ,

Ok thank you ,i see .

But my need is to launch the same task either by EDX or schedule .I think it's not possible by Qlikview server alone ,may be it needs publisher or something else ?

Mohamed, yeah, I do not believe you can do multiple tasks without Publisher license.  I actually double-checked, as I could not recall for sure, but with just the Reload Engine, the task options are radio buttons, so you can only have one etc.  You would need Publisher in order to have two different task types on the same app.  There is perhaps a viable workaround here though, you could potentially have two different versions of the application, one that uses EDX and the other on the schedule, but I do not know if you get something different with one of the loads etc., which if that is the case, then this would not work either.  Sorry I do not have better news for you.

Regards,
Brett
