Management Service. Failed to create backup of QVPR

Hi,

when I stop or start Management Service, I get in the App-Log: "Failed to create backup of QVPR : System.IO.DirectoryNotFoundException: Could not find a part of the path.".

Backup Path is C:\ProgramData\QlikTech\ManagementService\QVPR\Backups.
I find *.zip files until 2017.06.05, then *.tmp files thereafter.

What is the reason for the message? Where can i check the path of backups?

Thx and Kind regards! Marcel

Hi,
the path of the database backup is simply a folder inside the main QVPR folder.

You cannot change just the path of the backup folder, but you can change the path of the main QVPR one.
You'll find the setting in the QMC, under System -> Setup -> Management Service -> Repository.
You can also host the QVPR on a SQL server, if you prefer:
https://help.qlik.com/en-US/qlikview/November2017/Subsystems/QMC/Content/QMC_System_Setup_Management...

If you have not changed the default setting, I suspect that something is wrong with the current Backup subfolder: stop the Management service, rename  C:\ProgramData\QlikTech\ManagementService\QVPR\Backups to Backups_old and create a new, empty, Backups folder. Then restart the service and see if the issue still happen. You can also force creating a backup by clicking "Backup Now" in System -> Setup -> Management Service -> Repository.

Please, let me know if this helps!

Hi

Thank you for the good answer!

I cannot see the error message any longer in the Windows Eventvwr -> System log when I stop and start the Mgmt Service.

So fine. I see zipfiles until mid of Nov. 2017. From then on, I only see .tmp files. These are created daily at 00.00.

Maybe the Problem is that *.tmp files cannot be changed to *.zip Files on the Server. If I try to manually zip the tmp file, I get "Windows cannot created compressed zipped Folder here. … "

Good! Have you tried clicking on "Backup Now" and see if a new backup gets generated?

Hi

a new File 2018-11-26_144059.tmp gets created. But no zip file.

Again, in the windows application log i find message:

"Failed to create backup of QVPR : System.IO.DirectoryNotFoundException: Could not find a part of the path. ||
at System.IO.__Error.WinIOError(Int32 errorCode, String maybeFullPath) ||
at System.IO.File.InternalMove(String sourceFileName, String destFileName, Boolean checkHost) ||
at SolutionGlobal.FileSystem.FileSupport.MoveFile(String sourceFile, String destinationFile, Nullable`1 tryFor, Nullable`1 sleepDuration) ||
at QVPRXML.QVPRXMLFileHandler.PerformBackup()"

I think this is because of the error message as shown in my previous post.

Any chance that you might have some anti-virus scanning the folder?

no, no Virus scanner.

I added full Rights to the Mgmt Service User and the  \backup Folder, no better.

It does not work to create a zip file from the tmp file.

I would run ProcMon to see if there's anything locking access to the files there...

Hey there. Is there any helpful information in the QlikView Management Service (QMS) log itself? Default location for this log is %ProgramData%\QlikTech\ManagementService\Log. I would try stopping the QMS, then starting it back up and check this log. Also, it may be helpful to enable debug level logging for QMS as well. This can be done within the QlikView Management Console (QMC) > System > Setup > Management Service > General tab > tick the "Debug logging" radio button > Click the Apply button.
