IE Plugin not recognized

On my Lenovo ThinkPad runnung windows 7 64 bit and IE8 32 bit the IE plugin is not recognized when I VPN into a remote server. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the plugin and restarted the machine, but I still have the same probem.

When I VPN into the same server using a collegue's machine (which in theroy is the same because they are company issue) the IE plugin works.

I can get in using the Ajax plugin as a workaround. Any ideas?

try changing the IP in the address bar by the name of the server.

IT requirres that I use the IP address. This issue is not occuring on other laptops of the same brand and setup.
