Data encryption for qvd and qvf. How, Why and Where?

Can someone explain what is the exact use of Data encryption feature in Qlik sense QMC? i have figured about creating encryption/thumbprint key using certificate. But how exactly does this work? What changes can i see after encryption? Or how and where can someone access this encrypted qvf? 

I know its a lot of questions, but there is no proper explanation on this online.
