Adding a built in FTP connector in Qlik Sense Cloud

So far it is not possible to fetch data from an FTP server when using Qlik Sense Business, i.e. in the Cloud environment. The Qlik FTP/SFTP connector uses localhost in the url to find the respective file, which does not work in the cloud because localhost does not exist in that context. However, there are situations where companies only allow to fetch data from FTP servers. Therefore, I suggest to add this option.

@Ian_Crosland can you advice us as soon as you have an ETA?

Thanks,

Matteo

For a workaround, I recently created this automation that retrieves files from FTP and move's then to Onedrive.

Had to setup a Microsoft/OneDrive account because Google Drive is (still) not supported as a location in automations 😞

Thanks for sharing @p_verkooijen !

As part of your solution did you have to identify the 'latest file' in a list of files on the FTP? This is the part we've been struggling with - in our use case we have a new file being dropped every day with a unique timestamp in the file name (we have no visibility of in advance of what the timestamp and file name will be) - so we need to try identify the latest file in a list - however it doesn't seem the FTP connector in QAA can retrieve this type of metadata for us. Any insight on that?

Hi @scottduthie

Yes we need to process our increments from newest to oldest feed. So yes we identify the latest file, however not by using Automations.

We move the file(s) to a /processed folder after transferring them to the OneDrive.

Then perform a reload and move the file to a similar folder /processed on the OneDrive.
