Hidden script

Hidden script

QlikView provides this capability so .....

Add a simple Hidden Y/N control icon ( similar to the Data Manager generated lock icon ) that allows the Sense app designer to password protect / hide parts of their script.

Useful not only for people wanting to offer commercial Qlik Sense products, but for partners and even customers where for various reasons parts of the load script need to be hidden from prying eyes such as section access, etc.

I think this is just a UI change in the Script editor, and should have no impact on QIX ?

Very much agree! This is essential for solutions providers and MSPs.

A lot of our solutions will end up on-premise and currently there is no way to protect IP, besides creating custom connector (but that has limited functionality).

Thank you for your feedback on ways to improve our product. While this is something we understand would be useful, it's not on the short-term roadmap. Please continue to show your support for this idea.

Thanks,

Patric

Yes absolutely, this feature is very useful for Qlik Sense to have. Many inexperienced developers have made unnecessary changes to the scripts and it was a nightmare to support them.

It's been a year since this was first mooted, so hopefully Qlik R&D team will have this feature in the near or immediate roadmap.

Yes. Totally agreed! This is a very a useful feature. With hidden script we can prevent unauthorized access to important script.

Please do include the hidden script feature in future release.  It has been a long wait.

Hoping Qlik will take this into consideration to have hidden script feature in the Qlik Sense script editor. It very useful in preventing anonymous modification and fulfilling some business need.

Expecting to see this feature in the later version release.

Thanks for continued interest in this idea. It must surely be a relatively simple implementation in the QS hub editor ? Add a hide Y/N capability to each script section - they will all still excute but some will be hidden. I guess the only challenge is where will the password live, as unlike QV desktop you may never have a file on disk if you don't export a QVF. Maybe in the App overview ?

Yes, agreed with you. I think hidden script is very important for some business need. Hope Qlik will add this feature to qlik sense.

I think the other alternative Qlik will suggest currently is by control the access in security rule. For example, certain users are restricted to open the load editor.  However, it can be hard to maintain because one user may  have multiple apps, so it also needs multiple rules.

Hence the hidden script with password is very necessary.
