"No changes were captured in the last [N] minutes" task event notification from a category of "Errors and Warnings" seems like a potentially useful feature, if only it could be further restricted to a table level. Because, sometimes CDC gets obstructed only for a certain table, for example due to an obstructive DDL (alter) applied on a particular table, so monitoring if CDC continues for the whole reptask (on any table) does not help in that case, because it typically does continue, although there may be a problem with certain tables. So, this should be configurable for a table within the task, and one should take into account the frequencies of table changes when setting up manually such notification for each table. Ideally, an AI agent would analyze automatically the discrepancy between the actual and average rate of changes for each table and send notifications without the need to manually setup frequencies.
Working with Hrvoje we found this task event notification "No changes were captured in the last [N] minutes"
to be almost perfect, but in his case only 1 table was problematic.
In this scenario, the notification wouldn't triggered because other tables are receiving CDC, so a bit more of table granularity in how to setup the Notification event would be a good one 🙂
