Original Post:

Hello Qlik NPrinting users,

We are currently facing an NPrinting Designer issue after the latest Windows/Office update and are actively working to resolve this defect.

After attempting to open the NPrinting Template Editor in NPrinting Designer you may see this error message: “Qlik NPrinting Designer can't find a supported reporting template editor for this file…”

The temporary workaround would be to revert to a prior version of Office. How to revert to an earlier version of Office (microsoft.com)

We will continue to post updates on this thread as they become available. We appreciate your patience during this time.

Thank you,

Qlik Global Support

Did you reinstall NP designer also?

What worked for me was:

- Roll back to 2018 version

- Reboot

- Reinstall NPrinting Designer

- Reboot

Thanks for the suggestions Digvijay and Paolo. I had already tried rolling back a month to Version 2108, so I tried rolling back further to Version 2012.

This fixed Nprint Designer, and I could then edit templates, BUT unfortunately then Word and Excel would only open in safe mode!  I had to run online repair which  took me back up to Version 2109!

So im back at sqaure one. I have Nprint designer working on one of the server consoles, so ill have to work on RDP untill we get an update / fix from Qlik.

Thanks,

Tony.

Hello @wonkymeister

Qlik is actively working on this. A little more information about the expected fix can be found here: Qlik NPrinting Designer can’t find a supported template editor for Excel and PowerPoint.

All the best,
Sonja

Hello,

I solved the issue editing the Windows registry.

Open regedit and delete the key "Options" from [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\<version>\<application>\] where application could be Word, Excel or PowerPoint (the three Office programs used by NP Designer) and version is the number version of your Office (e.g. 15.0 is Office 2013, 16.0 is Office 2016, etc...)

In some case the problem is generated by the value "RenderForMonitorDpi", try to delete it instead to delete the "Options" key, otherwise I suggest to delete the entire key.

Hi,

I gave the above registry change a try and unfortunately for me it did not work.

First I tested to remove just the RenderForMonitorDpi key from Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Excel\Options .

I then tested to delete the entire folder key Options.

In both cases I'm using the affected office version 2109 (installed by auto-updates), Edit template in NPrinting excel report and the same error prompt appears.

not dipping into the registry - will let Qlik sort. Spent the day manually hacking from qlik objects into xlsx. Not fun........

I went a little further and deleted the Excel section in regedit, but that didn't help either

Then I checked the files being created and the access rights for them, at first glance it is clear that everything is fine

One exception is that my %temp% folder is located in not typical location, namely on c:\temp

And also, manipulations in the compatibility section (on nprintingdesigner.exe file) could not help me..
