Hello Qlik Users!

June is rapidly approaching and if you are using Qlik Sense Desktop, you have probably seen this alert:

Qlik Sense Desktop will no longer be free after June 30th 2020, because you can now get started faster and easier on any device in the cloud. Qlik Sense Desktop will continue to be supported as part of a Qlik Sense Enterprise deployment.

Starting June 30, 2020, free access to Qlik Sense Desktop will discontinue. Users will still be able to access their Qlik Sense Apps via their local file system (default path is C:\Users\username\Documents\Qlik\Sense\Apps) and copy the files to other editions of Qlik Sense. To continue working in Qlik Sense Desktop, users must authenticate against Qlik Sense Enterprise on WindowsPlease note: The authentication on Enterprise need to be done using professional license.  The analyzer license won’t work.

R&D is also working on the ability to authenticate via Qlik Cloud Services which would also enable Qlik Sense Business users to use Qlik Sense Desktop but we do not have a date as to when this will be available. We will be sure to pass that information along once we hear from R&D.

For more information on what is happening, please see the original Community post as it has an updated FAQ.

If you have any questions, please let us know in the comments below and we will reach out to the appropriate team if we do not have the answer. Please give this post a like if you found it useful and don’t forget to subscribe to the Qlik Support Updates Blog to stay up-to-date!

Kind regards,

Qlik Sense Desktop will  be available for unlicensed users using a temporary unlock file. Signup here https://developer.qlik.com/qsd to download it.

Hi Pablo,

I've tried to apply the temporary unlock licence but the Desk Top still won't launch? I still get the message about "Authentication Link" required?  Have you been successfully in applying the licence?

Thanks in advance.

I have just been informed that the latest desktop version doesn't support the temp unlock file - a fix is being worked on but I'll need to uninstall and re-install an older version.

Guys, I have a question regarding:

"Please note: The authentication on Enterprise need to be done using professional license.  The analyzer license won’t work."

Is that true? So far I thought that ANY commercial license enables you to work on QSDesktop. If not, how does the QS Desktop identify an analyzer license, if you authenticate via a single common link generated for all users on QS server.

Thx \ Piotr

@piotr-bratek The name "authentication link" is a bit misleading. It's a link to access the server, but you still have to manually log in to the Qlik Sense virtual proxy with valid user credentials.

The link is just a login / connection link. It still uses your credentials to check with the server if you are indeed who you claim you are and if you indeed have a license.

Edit: ... and I see my new colleague  beat me in answering a question of my old colleague 😄 .
