Finance Dashboard Visualisations – What Are Your Go-To Charts in Qlik?

I’m working on enhancing our finance dashboards and would love to hear from others—what are your favourite visualisations for presenting financial data clearly and effectively in Qlik Sense?
We’re reporting on typical finance metrics like revenue, expenses, gross margin, cash flow, and forecast vs actuals—but I’m keen to go beyond static tables and bar charts.

Great question — finance dashboards can really shine when you strike the right balance between clarity and depth. I've built a few at my org, and here are some go-to visualizations and design patterns that worked well:
KPIs with Context
Use KPI tiles at the top for key metrics like Revenue, Gross Margin %, and Net Profit — but pair them with mini-trends (sparklines or inline line charts) to add quick context without overwhelming the screen.
Forecast vs Actual
A combo chart works really well here: bars for actuals, a line for forecast, broken down by month.
Add color logic (e.g. green if actual ≥ forecast, red if under) for fast interpretation.
Consider showing % variance as a tooltip or a separate line below the main chart.
Waterfall Chart
Perfect for showing how components contribute to net income, gross margin, or cost breakdowns.
You can build this using native VizLib or extensions if you want fancier interactions.
Month-End Trends
A rolling 12-month line chart with light reference bands (e.g. for fiscal quarters or targets) can help show seasonality or YoY comparisons clearly.
To avoid clutter, allow drill-downs from Year → Quarter → Month using the native drill-down group feature.
Granularity
Start high-level and offer guided drill-downs: For example, have a revenue-overview sheet, then a region/product breakdown sheet, and so on.
Qlik’s native Show/Hide container and conditional visibility are your best friends for controlling complexity.
Storytelling for Non-Financial Users
Use text and image objects to annotate key takeaways ("Revenue dipped in Feb due to XYZ") – these help non-experts follow the data.
Build an “Insights” sheet with a narrative flow using KPI + chart + context blocks.
