Would be something like this where QTR = Expression 1 - where spend is broken into phases and EX2 = Expression two just a sum of the budget not stacked

I partly agree with your statement. PowerBI still struggles with SSAS and Tabular components. Microsoft themselves use Pyramid internally and not PowerBI yet. But you're right about the integration as they're part of same family.

I think most of us take granted the power of Associative Engine. I haven't seen any product which works like QIX engine. Whether it is QlikView or QlikSense.

Tableau might produce good visualizations but Sense is not far from it. And with it's open API approach you can work wonders with D3 and other charting libraries. I think QlikSense will evolve with the visualization objects soon.

I had tried to play with SSRS, PowerBI, Birst, BO, Tableau and YellowFin. None of them really made sense (no pun intended ).
