Qliksense: How colors are assigned to dimensions with auto-fill?

Hi,

The Qliksense app we work with has a dimension with more than a hundred possible values. I recall in Qlikview, there are a total of 18 colors that can be applied to each dimension, and the colors are assigned only for what is currently visible after applying filters. As the number of available values decrease to around 5-15 after applying common filters, this was rarely an issue.

In Qliksense however, it seems the colors are assigned to all values pulled from the database rather than whatever are left over after applying filters. This leads to duplicate colors being assigned to the values on the graph, and we are trying to find a solution to the issue. As the values are dynamic and may be different in each environment, we cannot manually assign color to each value either.

I wonder, is there a mechanism for Qliksense's auto-fill works? I tried to lookup the help page, it does not mention whether there is a pattern how colors are assigned to each value in dimension, or if it is totally random. I am thinking that if colors are assigned with a pattern, I may be able to find a workaround to the issue, but if it assigns colors randomly then there is not much I can do. Can someone elaborate? Thanks.

If you autofill colors, they will change once you make selections. You can also select the 100 color option when applying the colors.

@Lisa_P

Thx for your reply, but if the colors will change upon making filter selections, then why it will end up with duplicate colors being used on the chart?

Bump, does anyone know if there is a pattern for Qliksense to assign colors to dimensions, or it is completely random?
