How to use Extension

Hi All, This dumb question will help me big time.. Before i learn how to sue extensoin, i would like to learn on how to implement it in an app and how to deploy all on server... Can someone share simple extension ( with what it does ) and then how to use it in desktop and thne delpoy on server so when i view app via access point , i actually see it.
