How filter working in Qlikview

Hi Guys,

This is sandeep kumar from india. i am new to qlikview. i started learning and practicing qlikview. if we want to filter data in MS Sql server Reporting services, In sql query we mention one condition like year = 2010 and create one parameter in rdl file and assign to the query. my question is here we are not giving anything like this in qlikview. it is directly filtering when we click on some parameters which is not connected to the objects (chart, table, .... etc..). if anybody can explain how the filter is working in qlikview it should be a great help for me. please let me know if anybody need more informaion on this.
