QlikView vs SSAS

hello everyone,

i just got a new job, currently using SSAS but we are evaluating QlikView. one of the developers in our team claims that QlikView just offers a better look-and-feel than SSAS and that both the products are same from a functionality stand-point. i think data discovery is one of the core things that QlikView offers that SSAS doesn't but i am told to produce specific examples of what QlikView that SSAS can't.

thank you for any assiatnce.

anybody with real, first-hand experience? I am trying to document QlikView's capabilities that are missing in SSAS but I can't find any real information. The above links are not very helpful.

Hello,

Qlikview is for "personal" analytics. SSAS is designed for a broader range: from "workgroup" analytics up to the "enterprise" level.

I have just helped a client (Fortune 100) recover from a Qlikview binge that saw them deploy it across their enterprise, only to find the the "in-memory" solution does not scale at all! In fact, it's utterly useless for large data footprints. Instead, it works for small data sets that a single user might analyze on their own PC. With MS PowerPivot, it's entirely possible now to replicate that functionality of Qlikview in Excel for free.

If you want some real power use SSAS and you'll be able to support hundreds if not thousands of users without any of the Qlikview hang-ups. Complement the engine with a good client tool for viewing the cubes (like Pyramid Analytics) and your end-users will never look back.

Thanks & Regards,

Anita
