I would recommend re-using as much as possible, especially if the hierarchy is being modified often in BW.
Meaning, extracting the hierarchies from BW and storing them in QVDs.
Re-using has many benefits such as saving time and reducing manual errors .
There are several ways to do it using the different SAP connectors
Thanks. You say "extracting the hierarchies from BW and storing them in QVDs". Do you mean doing this as part of the data-extraction, (i.e. just adding it as a separate column in my data table) or do you suggest doing it as a separate step;
1. Extract Data into Qlik Table
2. Extract Hierarchies into second Qlik Table
The two-step process might be easier to manage, but I'll have to read up on how to extract the hierachies on their own (without any data/measures).
Assuming the data model in the app is star schema , you would have table for facts and tables for dimensions.
Hence you could :
1. create a QVD for Facts
2. create a QVD for Hierarchy/Hierarchies
What about checking with your BW team on how hierarchies are represented? (source tables, usage and extraction)
