# Qlikview - timeline and places chart

Hello,

I have a big problem with creating a timeline chart of my data (Trains).

I have this database:

Key

Start_Place

End_Place

Start_Time

End_Time

12345

Munich

Cologne

01.02.2017 05:00

01.02.2017 12:34

I want to have a linechart about the trains.

(When the trains is driving from one place to another and how long the train is at one place waiting)

I hope someone can help me!

Thank you!

• ###### Re: Qlikview - timeline and places chart

How do you know that train wait time at one place?

• ###### Re: Qlikview - timeline and places chart

Probably by matching the Start_Place to the End_Place of the previous leg and subtracting corresponding Start_Time from End_Time.

• ###### Re: Qlikview - timeline and places chart

Yes i would do that.

But the big problem is linechart.

• ###### Re: Qlikview - timeline and places chart

So I think you need to have End_Place as dimension, where train halts. Right?

• ###### Re: Qlikview - timeline and places chart

And avg(Waiting_Time) as an expression? Sounds good. But a line chart?

• ###### Re: Qlikview - timeline and places chart

Yes, this seems to be good as per the data and requirement.

• ###### Re: Qlikview - timeline and places chart

Can you show us an example of the line chart you want to obtain? Including dimensions?

You can do this in Excel with dummy data.

• ###### Re: Qlikview - timeline and places chart

Yes, something like this.

But it would be better if we change the Time/Place dimension.

So if the train is waiting there is a straight line and every place is only one time there.

• ###### Re: Qlikview - timeline and places chart

Is there any way I can get a Chart like this?

I really need some help...

• ###### Re: Qlikview - timeline and places chart

From your last explanation I understand that you want to ignore the delays when the train is not running (at the station). That means that either you select the arrival or the departure time as a single point in your line chart, or that you want to move all following laps forward in time. Which will it be?

I still wonder about what you really want to analyse in QlikView? Top 20 delays? Waiting/Running time ratio's? Or do you just want to show a succession of many (hundreds, thousands?) similar line segments?

If it is possible I don't want to ignore the delay at the Station.

I want to select a day and then see all trains over 24 hours (every quarter of an hour), to get a Overview about the trains and be able to plan the trains better.
