Control map density with zoom level? ( Cluster points )

This doesn't seem to be obvious   - in many other map objects, 'clustering' by zoom level is a fairly easy feature.  The last post I can find about it in QlikSense is from  2015 -  so things might have changed?

I can control the map points with a variable slider ( I created  rounded points in SQL server and calculated the distance to the closest  -as the slider is increased, more points are included.)  

Can the map 'zoom' level be accessed as a variable or related to in a similar way, or is it a case of creating 5-10 point layers and setting their visibility to zoom?
