How To Apply A License to Qlik Sense Server

Qlik Sense can be licensed with two different license methods:

  • The Signed License Key (SLK) and
  • Serial Number, Control Number, and LEF combination.

For details, see The Signed License Key (SLK) and the License Enabler File (LEF) for a breakdown of the difference.

First time licensing

  • A license will be prompted for when first accessing the Qlik Sense Management Console after install.
  • From the initial screen, you can choose to switch from Signed license key activation to User serial number and control number.
  • When using the Signed license key, copy the entire key into the available text box. An internet connection is required unless delayed sync is used. See Activate Qlik Products without Internet access - April 2020 and onwards for details.

  • When wanting to use a LEF enabled license, click User serial number and control number
  • Fill out the required details. If you have access to the LEF, offline activation is possible.

Changing or updating the existing license

It may be necessary to update the license information manually. This is only necessary for LEF licenses. Signed License Keys will automatically update from the License Backend server.
You can also change from a LEF enabled licence to a Signed License Key. However not the other way around. See How to change from a signed key license to a LEF or serial number license key.

If a license needs to be updated or changed, open the Qlik Sense Management Console and navigate to License Management

Updating a LEF

  • After opening License management, click on Site license
  • Verify that all the details are still correct
  • Click on Get LEF and preview the license to download the LEF file from the Qlik Sense LEF server. If your server does not have an internet connection, copy the LEF information from a LEF file and paste it in the LEF field.
  • If successful, the system will show the LEF content in the field
  • Click Apply in the action bar to apply and save your changes.
  • "Successfully licensed" is displayed. You have now activated the license and made the Tokens or Professional/Analyzer Users available for use and distribution.
