To uninstall Qlik Sense Enterprise on Windows without losing data, follow the steps outlined below. This will retain apps, as well as the database storing settings, user allocations, and security rules.

It is always recommended to take a database backup prior to uninstalling. This ensures a backup can be restored if necessary. See How to take a backup and restore Qlik Sense.

Note: These steps focus on an un-install and re-install of an identical version.

  1. Shut down the Qlik Sense Services on rim/satellite nodes. Do not shut down the Central Node.
  2. On the Central Node, go to Programs and Features in the Windows Control Panel
  3. Select Qlik Sense
  4. Click Uninstall

  5. Follow the on-screen instructions.
  6. When prompted, verify that Remove Qlik Sense demo apps, certificates and data folders is not checked.

  8. Once the uninstall has completed, reboot the Windows host machine
  9. Re-install Qlik Sense Enterprise on Windows (using the same version)
  10. Repeat Steps 1 to 5 on each secondary node/satellite node.
  11. When prompted, verify that Remove Qlik Sense demo apps, certificates and data folders is checked

  12. Once the uninstall has completed, reboot the Windows host machine

Which settings are kept? Seems like server config, rules, custom properties would all be lost.

Hello @mgranillo!

Uninstalling Qlik Sense like this retains the database as well. The database stores settings, such as security rules, properties on services, user allocations, etc...

We do recommend taking a backup of the DB regardless, which could be restored if necessary.

When re-installing, the following will be displayed:

Proceeding with the installation will prompt to re-use the existing local DB and require a login:

Will this method also keep the license of the system?

I would need to do a re-install as our new license key is now LEF (instead of signed license) and therefore cannot be activated without re-installation.
So I wondered if this method would work in the case of switching from singed license to LEF.

Hello @t_witzgall

To clarify before I give this a test: Do you want to switch from the Singled License Key to a LEF key? This would require a complete uninstall with the removal of the database.

Yes - that is the switch I want to do. I'm currently searching for a timesaving way but it seems there is none.
(As backup and restore the database would also not work then ..)
