Qlik Sense upgrade or repair fails even though the account performing the upgrade is a local administrator with full rights to the Qlik Sense installation folders. Same occurs if upgrade is performed with the Qlik sense service account as a local administrator.

When attempting to install or remove the Qlik Sense Extension bundle (Installing and removing Qlik Sense Extension bundle), and error occurs indicating it was not possible to perform the task and no logs are generated in the temp folder.

Errors in the installation logs such as the lines below are registered:

Action 18:38:37 56 System.UnauthorizedAccessException: Access to the path 'C:\ProgramData\Qlik\Sense\Installation\qrs-configuration.json' is denied.

   at Qlik.QustomActions64.QJSON.QRSConfiguration(Session session)
CustomAction CA_WriteQRSData returned actual error code 1603 (note this may not be 100% accurate if translation happened inside sandbox)

OR

15/02/2020 07:44:45 - Reversing replace file action: \Qlik\Sense\Repository\DefaultApps\Operations Monitor.qvf
15/02/2020 07:45:15 - File action Qlik.Installer.Utility.FileSystem.FileOperationManger failed with exception: Access to the path 'C:\ProgramData\Qlik\Sense\Repository\DefaultApps\Operations Monitor.qvf' is denied.

15/02/2020 07:45:25 - Unpacked installation folder could not be removed
15/02/2020 07:45:25 - Update failed
15/02/2020 07:45:25 - The file actions could not be performed.
15/02/2020 07:45:25 - Exit code: -1

Environment:

Qlik Sense upgrade process does not support hiding files under the path C:\ProgramData\Qlik\Sense. Sub-directories under this Sense folder should not have the "hidden" attribute even though "ProgramData" and "Qlik" folders have it.

Resolution:

Clear the Hidden attribute from all Qlik Sense installation related files and folders.
