Dates before 01/01/1980 are not tagged as date ('$date') in Qlik Sense

Dates prior to 01/01/1980 do not have a date tag ('$date').

You can see the according tags in the Data model viewer.

This is working as designed. To work around the limitation, a tag can be created manually in the Data Load editor. For more information about Tags see Tag in the Qlik Sense Online Help.

Can you elaborate on why Qlik Sense is designed this way - why are dates prior to 1980 not tagged as dates?
