@Sonja_Bauernfeind

Need your input please

We have two isolated different Qliksense environments, both are single node servers only.

Env1 and Env2,  now we want to combine both environment to one single Environment lets call Env3 so we don't have the burden of maintaining two different environments.

Could you please suggest us how to do it ?

Thanks

Raj

Hello @raj_qlik9

Combining these would mean migrating over apps and other customisations from one environment to the other as you cannot migrate one environment "ontop" of another one as it would simply overwrite the other one.

If you require direct assistance to do so, I would recommend getting in touch with our Consulting Services.

Though you are more than welcome to post about your query in our Deployment forums as well to see if other Qlik Sense administrators have previously done something similar as what you are looking to do.

All the best,
Sonja

@Sonja_Bauernfeind  Is the above migration on the same server or a different server?

Hello @snibrahim1993

This is for moving hosts (so, a different server). Migration indicates a movement from and to.

All the best,

Hi @Sonja_Bauernfeind

I'm preparing for a bunch of migrations and there's one thing I don't get...

In the video Mario is exporting two sets of certs:

  1. via QMC to a folder named SenseServer2.domain.local
  2. via the mmc exports to a folder named SenseServer1.domain.local

He is saying that the mmc-exports in the SenseServer1-folder are purely for "safe keeping" and the certs to transfer and import in the new machine are the QMC-export certs located in the SenseServer2.domain.local folder.

The weird thing is that he is importing certs from the SenseServer1.domain.local folder on the new machine.

So what is correct?

What he is saying or what he is doing? Or was the folders renamed before importing?

Is it a mistake that would explain why SenseServer1.domain.local is referenced in both columns for the CA-cert on the new machine? Shouldn't this be SenseServer2.domain.local in the first column or is that not important?

The August 2023 documentation is exporting everything via mmc and restoring those on the new machine.

Are the two sets identical or is the act of setting the fqdn in the QMC-export important?

TIA!

Hello @Skage

I am reaching out to Mario to get clarification.

Hello @Skage

After a chat with Mario, here's the clarification:

Exporting the certificates with the correct new name from the QMC is the preferred method, as this makes things easier to manage once the original server has been decommissioned or replaced. Though both methods are correct.

In the video, the certificates were imported from the "wrong" folder - though technically not wrong, as either work OK.

We'll work on having the mismatch of voiceover and visuals in the video clarified.

All the best,
Sonja

Hi @Sonja_Bauernfeind

Thank you for clearing things out for me.  I just needed to have it confirmed before I attempt a migration. Good to know that both ways would work but one would hurt the eyes a bit 😄

All the best to both you and Mario!

What about license keys?  When I install Qlik on my new server do I use the same signed license key that is on my old server?

Hello @mikegrattan

Correct, you would be using the same license. As for parallel use, I would recommend reaching out to your account manager to verify what your license is entitled to, but a signed license key can be used across sites, synchronizing users. See Qlik Licensing Service Reference Guide

All the best,
Sonja
