IE Plugin Upgrade from 9 to 10

When upgrading IE plugin from 9 to 10 do you have to uninstall 9 first on box? I have observed that when you have IE plugin 9 and 10 on the same box and then try to uninstall 9 you have to then go and "repair" version 10 to get it to work.
