Root and mounted folder

Hi,

I am currently using Default qlikview root folder to store all the final qvw's. so this way users can see all the qvw's in the access point.

I am trying to create a folder structure for Development and Production apps.

I am not aware of the functionality of root and mounted folder in qlikview server. Is documents present in root folder only visible in access point?

Please explain me-

-the functionality of these folders,

-Where and how to create folder structure for Dev & Prod. Is it in root or in mounted path?

Regards,

Suraj

Hi Suraj,

I have written a blog post about how I approach Folder Structures on QlikView server, you may find this useful:

One of the key things to try and avoid is mounting one folder that is contained within another mounted folder - as this can lead to the same document being shown multiple times in Access Point.

Probably you have a directory called QlikSource, if not create it and define your structure. This is the structure in which you store your files, in Access point the structure will depend on the name section given in Tab Document information (in the QMC); here you can create a logical classification of documents

Thanks for your inputs. Please clarify the below questions--

-what is the significance of Root and mounted folders?

-Is mounted folder kept inside Root folder? If yes, why?

-How to give entire root or mounted folder access to a specific user?

Hi Steve,

I'm just trying to implement your approach, which seems straightforward but I'm missing something...

When publisher distributes the qvw to accesspoint mounted folders I assumed that it would respect NTFS and so i could use 'AllAuthenticated Users' as long as the mounted folder has the correct permissions. However, it seems that even when I can't access the mounted folder I can still see the app in AP.

Do I always have to distribute to cetain users?

Thanks!

Hi Julian,

Having Publisher in the mix has an impact on the permissions, and your ability to grant permissions on a folder rather than on each file.

When publisher distributes a file to another location it sets the AD permissions on that file.  I guess what is happening in your case is that although the folder is out of bounds for a user the permissions granted on the file are overriding it.

Check in the Server set up in QMC that you are actually using NTFS security (under System \ Servers \ Security \ Authorization).  Also check the Authorisation under Documents \ User Documents for each document - that you are not granting more than you expect here.

Hope that helps,

Steve

Thanks Steve - think you've got it spot on.
