QlikView Commenting with Dynamic Update (no extension needed)

I created an example for commenting in QlikView. It uses Dynamic Update and Macro. I successfully tested it in QlikView Client AND on QlikView Server.

Downside:

  • not supported in AJAX (b/c macro is used)
  • users might have to be in QlikView Administrator Group to use Dynamic Update

I also came up with an example using InputFields, but that is not as good as this one.

Feel free to post improvement ideas.

Hi Matthias,

I am very impressed by your idea, which seems very easy to implement and is the solution to something lots of clients demand !

Thank you for sharing.

+ Dynamic Update entries will be lost once the document is refreshed/reloaded. Another downside is that dynamic updates entries are not shared in a clustered environment (As each cluster has its own in memory data cloud).

Thanks for the reply but I started with the same solution, went on to dynamic upadte,Direct Query and now seraching extensions which woud provide the same functionality. As the macros run on cliet well but does nt run on access point. Macro Parse Failed.

Partik

I had "Macro Parse Failed" error, when having tiny errors in my macro code. You might check your code once again or provide it here and we could have a look together.

Hi Matthias,

I downloaded the example which u posted, it runs perfectly on desktop but fails in access point.

Did it work for You on access point?

Client Details( version-11.20 SR-8 64 bit Edition)

Server Details ( version- 11.20 SR-4  64-bit )

Is it because of SR-4 and SR-8 incompatibility?

Thanks,

Pratik

It fails in Access Point

  • either because of AJAX (no macro support) or
  • you are not in the QlikView Administrators group (needed for dynamic update) or
  • your security settings on the server or
  • you forgot to activate dynamic update on the server
