Invalid path error opening Excel - Workaround found, but why?

I have a very unusual problem with the Qlik Sense Desktop edition for which I found a solution but cannot explain it so I would welcome suggestions:

a) I create a Connection to the folder that stores my Excel files. The connection path is:

C:\Users\alexi\Documents\Qlik\Sense\DataSources\

When I select the Excel file using "Select Data" I get:

b) When I create another connection but this time using the machine name instead of "C:"

\\LAPTOP-H0E3M650\Users\alexi\Documents\Qlik\Sense\DataSources\

and selected the same Excel file and all is fine. I can select the file, the script gets inserted and the data loaded fine when I load data.

LOAD

    ObjectType,

    ObjectDescription

FROM [lib://ExcelTest2/SAPObjectTypes.xlsx]

(ooxml, embedded labels, table is Sheet1);

Can someone PLEASE throw some light on this?
