Questions about Talend Cloud Pipeline Designer costs and usage!

Hello!

I am investigating the Talend Cloud Pipeline Designer, and it seems like a great product! But I have a few questions:

  • I saw in the demo videos that there is a Python pipeline processor that allows to enter custom code. Is it also possible to program reusable custom processors that I can reuse accross different pipelines without copy-pasting code like in the demo video?
  • I have seen in the Talend Cloud Management Console User Guide that pipelines can be scheduled based on time (like "daily"). Can pipelines also be automatically triggered by events like a Kafka message?
  • If I use only the Cloud Pipeline Designer, are the only costs the account usage and pipeline run time costs as shown on this page, or is a subscription to a Talend Cloud product necessary?
  • Can I run as many on-premise Remote Engines as I want on different on-premise systems?

Thanks in advance!

Alex

Hi Alex,

Sorry about the delay in getting back to you.

I will try to answer your questions below. It should be pointed out that this is a brand new product and we are actively working on improving the offering at the moment. You will see a lot of additional functionality becoming available over the next year.

With regard to Python processors, at the moment you will need to copy and paste. However, there are plans to introduce Python Libraries in the future.

The costs you have seen are exactly as stated. There is no need for a Talend Cloud subscription to use the product. However, some of the functionality is not fully available without Talend Cloud,

With the Basic package, you do not get to use Remote Engines. With the Standard package you can use up to 5. In the future the packages will be expanded, but we are looking towards 2020 for that.

With regard to triggering the Pipeline, at the moment you will need to have a Talend Cloud subscription to do this. In this case you would have to use the Talend Cloud Management Console API to do this. https://api.us.cloud.talend.com/tmc/?_ga=2.57919919.424369503.1569229647-56006888.1547069849

I hope this has answered your questions

Regards

Richard
