Diference between Talend ESB / Talend ASF

Hello,
I was looking in the Talend website for the SOA Solutions, so, i found two solutions, Talend ESB and Talend ASF, but in practice i didn´t found the difference between both solutions, because when i did the download, it was the same tool, "ToolSuite 3.3.1". Are there both solutions in the same tool suite? Or i can download them separated?
Thanks

Hi,
Talend ASF is based on our previous product SOPERA ASF, whereas Talend ESB is a new offering that is based on CXF, CAMEL, ActiveMQ and Karaf.
For Talend ESB, we are releasing a new Tooling package as part of our next release - v4.2. Note - that it will be based on Talend Open Studi and provide specific tooling for building ESB Web Services and also Data Integration Services and run them on Talend ESB.

Let me know if you have further questions.

Cheers.

This is great news, I've lost so much time and effort with SUN's JCAPS to OpenESB open source initiative. Oracle has killed SUN's vision for open and standard based healthcare interoperability offerings - former SUN customers are looking for a way out from Oracle.
Now that Talend is embracing Apache Camel, it's awesome news, because it proves Talend is not in the "vendor lock-in" business, like other open source (JBoss, Liferay, Nuxeo, Exo, etc.) vendors perpetuate!
So, how I can we use TOS 4.2 to start Apache Camel development? This forum refers to "hacks" for using TOS jobs with Apache Camel, rather stay with Fuse IDE then. The Open eHealth platform (IPF) 2.2 is based on Apache Camel, Talend with IPF will provide a "commercial" grade alternative to other proprietary and predatory licensing products!
Understand Talend needs to play the Marketecture game, but is there a road map for "real" Apache Camel support? You may also consider TOS support for Smooks. Actually, Talend needs an SDK component for community custom extensions and plug-ins.
A hopeful contributor for making Talend "the" open source healthcare best-of-breed solution! Check out Mirth, this open source tool is getting plenty of traction, however, no match compared to Talend/Apache Camel...
Cheers,
George

Hi George,
we are glad to give you a few more answers to your questions which are hopefully exactly what you and your project are looking for:
1) with the Talend ESB 4.0 which is available now under the Apache License you can start to use Camel with support from Talend. At this time it is the Camel-Runtime (ncl. a prepared OSGi Container in case you are interested to run the routes in OSGi) but there is no specific tooling to Camel so far within the Talend ESB 4.0 SE. That said, we are also close to provide you the related tooling for Camel as part of our next Release of Talend ESB SE in June. So the tooling is just a few weeks away and for people who knows how to work with TOS it's quite easy to also use the Route Builder Tooling as it is quite similar to what we do in TOS for Data Integration job#s and data servers (did you recognized the tESBProvider/tESb Consumer compoents already?) .
We also will strongly continue to make the use of Camel and CXF as easy as possible for people and you can expect that the current stuff is only the starting point and we participate also in the Apche Camel and CXF projects to not fork things but to really support the core Apache Projects and provide the professional tooling and support around them.
So the current TOS 4.2 provides you not exactly what you are looking for but the Camle Tooling is soon to come.
2) Additionally you mentioned Smooks. Talend also contributes to Smooks and we have a new component in TOS / TIS 4.2. which leverages the EDIFACT support from Smooks and makes it even easier to use and to combine with the other stuff TOS / TIS provides. In TOS/TIS you find the tEDIFACTtoXML component and in TIS there is also a Wizard which gives you immediate access to the UN/EDIFACT Standards to just select from. In case you look for a plain smooks component you might try out this one (se link at the end ) and let us know if this this is something you are interested in to use for your project. http://soperadi-smooks.googlecode.com/files/SmooksComponents.pdf (ignore the EDI stuff as it is much better now in tEEDIFACTtoXML but the tSmooks component might help you to do just transformations e.g. using the Freemaker templates ) So far the tSmooks component is more a technical proof of concept and not really tested with (TOS4.2 so far) but if we find enough people with interest it clearly something we could work on to get it in the product or make it available via talendforge.
So please stay tuned and let us know what you need and if we are on the right track with what we did so far for your project.
Thanks
Dietmar

Hi,
This is helpful comment. I 'm looking for a way to changing EDIFACT message to XML and XML to EDIFACT.
I find tsmooks component and Talend and tEEDIFACTtoXML. How can I use tEEDIFACTtoXML? I can not find any samples or training manual. Please give me some good training materials.
Thanks.

Hi there, refreshing a bit this post, I have a current situation, in terms of architecture I need to solve.

I find Talend very useful when it comes to data integration, but has someone from here used as Service Manager (a truly ESB) , where services are developed and endpoints are created by other technologies and Talend is solely used with Service Management, Service Monitoring and Service Security endeavors?

thanks, hope is anyone there..
