Extract section of text

I have, 
10023_23447.pdf as text data in file ,i want only 10023 as output in destination text file ..how can i do?

You can use one of the below methods to extract the data.

row1.input.substring(0,5)

OR

row1.input.substring(0,row1.input.indexOf("_"))
