What's the meaning of length and precision in schema

Hi,
I am totally beginner on Talend TOS. I am using the Java version. From my knowledge of Java, the data type used in schema don't have the definition about length and precision. Who can explain how to use the "length" and "precision" in defining schema? What's purpose of them?

Hi
Schema will be passed on to the next component.
When you use txxxDBInput/txxxDBOutput, they will map the schema of database table automatically and create table.
