Why the need for different tools

It seems to me like Talend Big Data and Data Integrator share a lot of the same functionality.  Why are they designed as separate tools?

There is, but you have to pay for it. Talend provides an Open Source offering for Data Integration, Big Data, ESB, MDM, etc, separately. If you want them all in the same Studio, then you have to purchase the Data Fabric offering. You will find that there is a fair amount of overlap with the Data Integration product for all other downloads anyway to be honest.

Hello,

Talend simplifies and automates big data integration with graphical tools and wizards that generate native code and Talend open studio for big data product provides Hadoop and NoSQL Components and Connectors. It means your can start working with Apache Hadoop and NoSQL databases.

Best regards

Right but why can't there be one unified GUI tool for both traditional ETL projects and Big Data projects using Hadoop?

If you want you can download the source code, re-code and compile it all together.

@xdshi , so it is possible to download the server, compile and run it... without license ... in what way does it distinguish technically from payed version/subscriptions (not talking about cloud) ?

Of course they have to make money 0683p000009MACn.png

It doesn't look like you have access to the TAC code or the Jobserver code for Data Integration. It looks like only the code to build the Open Source tools is there.
