[resolved] Installer won't start on Windows, requires admin privilege, 64 bits...

Those are the common issue with the installation of Talend Data Preparation Free Desktop (Data Prep for short) on Windows, and how to solve them:

Windows version: we support from Windows 7 but it must be in 64 bits. We don't support 32 bit Windows sorry! (ok granted, I didn't really solve this one...)
The installer won't start: we ship Data Prep as a standard self-executable Microsoft Windows Installer. We found out the security policy in some enterprise may stop the installer from starting. Not a problem: use the zip installer instead; see below.
The installer starts but it prompt you for local administrator privileges, and you don't have them, and nobody from IT will help. Not a problem either: the zip install is your friend.

All right, so zip installer to the rescue. It's easy, follow those steps:

Go back to the download page http://www.talend.com/download/talend-open-studio#t8
Scroll down all the way down to the end until you get to the "other releases" table
These are actually _variants_ of the same release. The last line of the table should list a file like "Talend-DataPreparation-Free-Desktop-windows-1.0.zip". This is what you want. Click on the "US" or "Europe" link in the last column to trigger the download.
Unzip this zip file anywhere you like.
The application is inside: just double click on the .exe -- and you are all set!

If it still doesn't work for you, let us know on dataprep@talend.com

There is a piece of documentation about alternative to the standard installation: https://help.talend.com/display/KB/Alternate+installation
which may also help.

When all other talend products are compatible to install in Windows 32 bit version system.
Why does Talend Data Preparation has this limitation??

Hi
Talend Data Preparation free desktop runs both the client side (that is the user experience based on HTML5 ) and the server side of the application in your desktop. Because the server part includes in memory data processing capabilities so that you can interact in real time with your data, it requires a 64 bits operating system.
In the commercial version, the server side runs on a remote centralized served, so you'll be able to run Talend Data Preparation with a 32 bits OS through a browser based interface. We will also provide soon an Amazon Web Service image of the free version with similar capabilities.

The fact is, these companies would still be wildly profitable if, for example, they dropped all of these Epson printer error code 0xe3 hidden trackers across the web and limited the amount of data they keep to only what is most necessary.
