Just changing the extension from csv to xlsx and loading the data then as ooxml should not work else I would expect an error. Did you really this? Or was it more opening the csv and copy & paste the content to Excel and storing it?
How did you check the number of records?
Usually there are two issues (msq and eof) within the file-format entries which may impact the number of loaded records. Therefore try it with removing any msq-statement and adding no eof to it.
