It is not as simple as just changing the URL. Since you are using HTTPS for the communication, the current certificates will be invalid for the new address.

The hostname in Qlik Sense is determined by the content of host.cfg, to change the hostname you must change the value in this file. Following this action you must change the configuration to apply the correct certificate, but the steps vary depending on your environment.

- Are you running a single or multi node environment?

- Are you using 3rd party or self signed certificates?

Hi Toni,

Thanks for your reply.

Well Qlik Sense is running on a single node environment and has self signed certificates.

Can you tell me the step by step process as I am new in Qlik Sense? I also don't know where to see the certificates. It's very help full if you send the steps with images.

Really appreciate your reply.

Ali

For single node and self signed certificates it should be inline with:

  1. Change hostname in Windows as usual.
  2. Restart the server as required by Windows.
  3. Stop all the Qlik Sense services.
  4. Use Microsoft Management Console(MMC) to delete all the Qlik Sense related certificates.
  5. Copy "C:\ProgramData\Qlik\Sense\Host.cfg" to "Host.cfg.old".
  6. Host.cfg contains the hostname encoded in base64. Generate this string for the new hostname using a site like https://www.base64decode.org/
  7. Open Host.cfg and replace the content with the new string
  8. Start up Qlik Sense

Note: The central certificate is used to encrypt password strings using in connectors, changing this certificate means that you will need to recreate all data connections that include encrypted password information.

Thanks Tony for your detailed reply.

One more thing from where I can see that my certificates are 3rd party or self signed certificates?

Open the certificate in Windows MMC, and look at the Issued By value. Alternatively look at the certificate detail in your browser when you access Qlik Sense, to look at who signed it.
